The perfect country pub 90 minutes from Birmingham is the best in the UK

Looking for a Sunday afternoon excursion? How about a trip to the Cotswolds and lunch in a 16th-century pub with its own sunny terrace offering views of rolling hills and the lush English countryside?

Frogmill, in Shipton Oliffe near Cheltenham, serves a “perfect family-style British” roast dinner and hosts Summer Sundowner Sessions with live music from 4pm until sunset on select Sundays. Dine in the cozy stone Cotswold pub or relax in the landscaped gardens.

It has just been voted best pub in the UK at the 2022 National Pub & Bar Awards. It is less than an hour and a half drive from Birmingham.

The kitchen includes a Spanish Josper charcoal oven and an American smoker for specialty barbecue dishes using local produce. Head here for a 35-day-old steak, a wagyu burger, halloumi fries, and a whole Cornish fillet.

There is an extensive vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free menu as well. Roasted potatoes include roasted duck potatoes and maple-glazed rainbow root vegetables.

Purchased by Brakspear in 2016 and reopened in 2018 after major investments, the pub features a traditional bar, restaurant, boutique bedrooms, and function spaces.

The National Pub & Bar Awards brought together 94 pubs and bars from across the UK, each awarded the title of the best in their county. Of these, 15 regional winners were selected before The Frogmill was crowned the national winner.

The judges praised The Frogmill for its flawless operation, attention to detail and genuine hospitality. Find out more and book here

“I am overwhelmed with thought,” said Simon Stanbrook, general manager at The Frogmill. “This award is for the team – from housekeeping to kitchen and events to home working teams, they work very hard day in and day out. We work together as a family.

“We are keen on detail and want to extend a warm welcome to our visitors. It is part of the Honeycomb Homes motto – treat your team like family, your guests like friends and homes like homes. Welcome people as you do in your own home.”

You can find The Frogmill at Shipton Oliffe, Andoversford, GL54 4HT.
