BOSTON – Police issued an alert after a person walking their dog Saturday night in Swampscott was surrounded by at least nine coyotes.
Swampscott police were called around 9:30 p.m. on Rockledge Road.
The caller said a large pack of coyotes surrounded them and their dog and “didn’t back down.”
Officers arrived on scene and saw at least nine coyotes.
“Fortunately, these coyotes appeared to be spooked by the arrival of the intersections and strobe lights. Officers escorted the caller and their dog back to their residence without further incident,” police write.
Police issued several tips for coyote encounters. They suggest shouting and waving your arms, noises, projectiles or other things like hoses, vinegar water guns or pepper spray.
