Siva Kaneswaran signs up for Dancing on Ice 2022

Siva Kaneswaran has been confirmed as the final star to sign up for the new series of Dancing On Ice.

The Wanted singer, 33, is the 11th celebrity competitor for the ITV figure skating competition which is set to air in January.

The former boybander confirmed the news during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, revealing his late bandmate Tom Parker inspired him to take part.

Revealing the news exclusively to ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Siva said: ‘I’m very excited. I’m trying to be positive and not be in a fearful mindset!’

‘I’m looking forward to meeting all the cast. I want to learn how to skate and make my family proud of me and put on a show for everyone to see and hopefully not make a fool of myself!’

He admitted though that ‘I don’t know why I said yes to it, I was talking to my manager in the car saying can I change my mind!’

‘I’m gonna go and do some training after this and meet Torvill and Dean, I’ve never ever skated before, never roller skating,’ he added before joking that he’d practice with his family over the festive period.

It was pointed out to Siva that his The Wanted bandmates have history in doing well on reality shows with Jay McGuinness and Max George competing on Strictly Come Dancing.

‘The Wanted aren’t really known for their dancing. Jay won Strictly so I’m taking that with me, he’s taken me some words of encouragement.’

Siva said his late bandmate Tom Parker will also provide inspiration, as he explained ‘To be honest, I’m just living day by day. But mostly, I look back and smile. He taught me so much about life. He taught me to live life and not be afraid. That’s one of the reasons I’m doing the show.’

‘He was 33. I just chatted to [his widow] Kelsie yesterday. She’s doing well, just keeping her chin up and just taking it day by day’.

Signing: It was announced on Monday that former Liberty X star Michelle Heaton was the 10th celebrity to sign up for the upcoming series

Siva is the final celebrity to be announced for this year’s Dancing On Ice, completing this year’s stellar line-up of stars.

The singer will take to the ice alongside the previously announced actress and DJ Patsy Palmer, football legend John Fashanu, Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, olympic gymnast Nile Wilson, Coronation Street’s Mollie Gallagher, Drag Queen and TV personality The Vivienne, TV personality Joey Essex, comedian Darren Harriott, actress and West End star Carley Stenson and singer Michelle Heaton.

It comes after Siva was forced to drop out of the next series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins after he passed out while filming for the brutal quasi-military training series in Thailand.

Siva was one of six stars discharged from the show on medical grounds, with Siva being one of three stars to faint on the same day while carrying heavy bags in the tropical heat as part of a gruelling task.

Exciting! On Friday Darren Harriott, 34, confirmed he’s signed up for the new series of Dancing On Ice as he joked his ‘giant feet’ could be problematic

It was announced on Monday that former Liberty X star Michelle Heaton was the 10th celebrity to sign up for the upcoming series of Dancing On Ice.

The singer, 43, confirmed the exciting news on Monday’s Lorraine as she told the presenter she ‘never’ could have competed in previous years due to damage caused to her body by alcoholism.

She said: ‘I’m so excited, I can’t believe it. Me and the kids are huge fans and we watch every series. I would never have been able to compete because of the way my body is and I’m so grateful I got this this year so I can do it properly.

‘I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m not a skater. I’ve been on the ice a few times to audition. I get my skates tomorrow.’

After confirming he was appearing on the show, Darren Harriott joked his ‘giant feet’ could be problematic.

The comedian, 34, joined Trisha Goddard on Talk TV to confirm he was the ninth celebrity in the line-up, where he said: ‘I’ve got giant feet, I don’t skate and I can’t dance!

Coming soon: He becomes the ninth celebrity to join the line-up alongside Joey Essex (pictured) after he was unveiled as eighth star to sign up for hit show

‘My family has already made bets – they’re making bets that I’ll fall on the first episode!’

Darren is best known for his stand-up work on the BBC Radio 4 series, Darren Harriott’s Black Label and was nominated for the Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017 and Best Show Award in 2019.

TOWIE star Joey Essex was unveiled as the eighth star to sign up for hit show, following on from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’s The Vivienne and Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher and Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson.

Speaking on Friday’s This Morning Joey revealed he had been set to appear in the 2013 series but had been ‘too immature’ and ‘messing around’ during a rehearsal.

Big entrance: The former TOWIE star, 32, made an appearance on This Morning after the announcement was made

Joining Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond in the studio, he said: ‘I’m so excited. I wanted something in my life with structure and it’s more serious than what I usually do.

‘I’ve done all the dating shows in the world but this is more serious… like SAS: Who Dares Wins.’

‘I used to go to foam parties in a dancing rink, I’m not the best skater. I did it maybe when I was 11 or 12 but nothing proper. It’s scary, it’s a competition, I’ve done The Jump which is similar sort of… well I won it but I don’t know how.

‘This is one of them shows I’m looking at thinking winning would be a bonus, I’m gonna put all my energy into it.

New venture! Hours earlier, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’s The Vivienne was also announced as part of the line-up

Victorious: The Vivienne, won the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK which aired in 2019

‘When I came out of the jungle in 2013, we met with producers, I went on the ice but I was a little bit immature and was messing around and it wasn’t right for me and the producers knew too but at this time of my life I’m ready.

James Lee Williams, 29, the drag queen from Liverpool best known as The Vivienne, won the first series of the hit show, which aired in 2019.

Since winning the series, they have gone on to front a number of TV shows in the United States and also appeared in the special Christmas edition of BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee.

Revealing the news on social media, The Vivienne said: ‘I’m beyond excited to announce that I will be competing in Dancing on Ice in 2023!

One to watch: It comes after it was revealed Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher is also joining the series

‘This is honestly a dream come true and I can’t wait to start training on the ice. To be the first drag artist to take part in one of the big UK reality competition shows is truly an honour.

‘I think it’s a big step forward for queer representation on TV.’

Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher announced she was joining the series during an episode Lorraine, with the 24-year-old actress saying: ‘I’ve been keeping it a secret but I can tell everyone now.

‘I’ve not got the best coordination so when people find out they will laugh, but I don’t want to spend my life saying ‘I can’t do this, I can’t do that”.’

The actress – who plays Nina Lucas on the ITV soap – revealed she’d been seeking advice from her Corrie co-stars, saying: ‘I’ll be getting all the tips I can because I’m going to need it!’

As seen on screen: The actress plays Nina Lucas on Coronation Street and scooped Best Serial Drama Performance at the National Television Awards last year

While Mollie may need some advice on the skating she’ll have no problem with nailing the performance aspects required on the ice.

Last year, the talented star scooped Best Serial Drama Performance at the National Television Awards after gripping viewers with the hate crime storyline alongside her on-screen boyfriend d Seb Franklin  – played by Harry Visinoni.

Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson was also announced for the show last week.

Revealing the news on his YouTube channel, Nile, 26, said: ‘I’m going to be on ITV’s Dancing on Ice! This is a really cool thing.

On what he hopes to bring to the ice, Nile said: ‘My biggest goal on the show is to do something that no-one has ever done before!’

Love Island favourite Ekin-Su confirmed she’d signed up for the skating show after her boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti said he turned down an offer to join.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the reality star, 28, gushed ‘I’m so excited, I can’t wait to get myself on the ice and skate. Stay tuned and see you on the ice.’

He said: ‘I have so much going on and I can’t commit to something every day and when I do something I want to do it properly.

‘Right now I just can’t focus on something like that, for the moment anyway, but in the future maybe I will.’

John, 60, said: ‘I’m so excited to be a part of Dancing on Ice! I don’t think it’ll come as a surprise to people that I’m very competitive – I am definitely in it to win it.

‘And this may be one of the scariest things I’ve ever signed up for but I couldn’t be more ready for the challenge!’

Patsy appeared on This Morning from her home in Malibu, California to confirm her participation.

The EastEnders icon, 50, said: ‘I can’t believe I’m the first one. This was the one I really had to think about, I wanted to challenge myself, get out of my comfort zone.’

‘I’ve turned it down before because I was terrified, but when I turned 50 I made a pact to get out of my confront zone. This is for all the 50 year olds. I’m actually quite scared now.

‘Even my daughter doesn’t know, she’s been travelling.’

Patsy said she will return to the UK for the show but will do much of her training in the US.

She said: ‘I am coming back, but I’ll be training in Los Angeles, which is fantastic.

‘I’m not competitive but this time I’m gonna say let’s try and win it. I’m gonna focus on the training and use meditation, and this will really put it to the test for me.’

Talking about her experience, she said: ‘The experience ice skating I’ve had is that I would go with my friends as kids, as one of the first things we were allowed to do without our parents. We used to skate around fast and crash into the walls.

‘It would be really nice to skate to songs I love, but a lot are very upbeat and I don’t want to create a challenge for myself.’

Patsy lives in Malibu with husband Richard Merkell and their three children, Fenton, 22, Emilia, 20, and Bertie, 10, after relocating to the United States in 2014.

She is also a parent to actor Charley Palmer Rothwell, 30 – her UK based son with former partner Alfie Rothwell.
