A source told ESPN that Mississippi State and soccer coach Mike Leach have agreed to a two-year contract extension that would raise his annual salary to $5.5 million and run through the 2025 season.
State law limits the term of contracts for state employees to four years. Leitch’s previous salary was $5 million a year.
Leach, who was the former head coach at Washington State and Texas Tech, is entering his third season in Mississippi.
The Bulldogs went 4-6 during the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season.
In the second year under Leach, the team made it to a bowl game and finished third at SEC West with a record 7-6.
Mississippi State will open the season against Memphis on September 3.
Bulldogs quarterback Will Rogers, who finished second in the conference with passing yards (4,739) and touchdown passes (36) last season, is back.
