Glastonbury Live: who’s today, stage times, secret groups and how to watch

Volodymyr Zelensky suddenly appears in the video at the Glastonbury Festival

Glastonbury Festival 2022 is underway, as music fans from around the world flock to Worthy Farm in Somerset, England.

Heading this year’s festival is Gen-Z pop star Billie Eilish, Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney, and American rapper Kendrick Lamar, with Diana Ross taking part in the traditional Legends Slot.

McCartney is playing a pre-festival party in Somerset tonight, with tickets for the 800-person show selling out in less than an hour.

On the other stage, rock band The Libertines opened the proceedings after a powerful on-screen speech from Ukrainian President Zelensky.

After Wolff Alice alarmed fans by announcing the cancellation of their flight from Los Angeles, he has now officially arrived in the UK to perform for his set this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Met Office expects Friday, June 24, to be cloudy, turning into light rain in the early evening.

Kae Tempest Review – Another Stage

“More pressure…release! More pressure…more release! “

Kae Tempest cooks Worthy Farm using simmering bass line and bubbles underfoot. On her January single “More Pressure,” everyone in this crowd was a tuning fork for the 36-year-old bars.

The poet turned rapper looks very relaxed. Their work contains sharp contrasts, noticeably deviating from aggressive to emotional. Tempest go hard – but they’re also very happy to be here.

“This is an important part of summer,” they gush. “I am so grateful to be here. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Like a gas-covered preacher in a black jacket, they chase the stage and throw up their hands. Tempest is truly an artist whose work materializes when it is shown live. They are known for their headlines about the state of the nation, but that’s not all they have in mind today.

“Ketamine for breakfast! The bad girls were drinking with! Half a shame in the bakery eating pastries! groaning on ‘ketamine for breakfast.’ It’s meant to be a poignant moment of reflection on the chaotic past, but there’s no denying that Tempest could describe the perfect half-morning for a crowd in Glastonbury.

Mel C says the Spice Girls would love to play Glastonbury

Melanie C said it would be a “dream” to play the Spice Girls at Glastonbury next year, adding that she had a good feeling they would be joined by member Victoria Beckham.

The 48-year-old singer, who played the Spice Girl chants Who You Think You and Spice Up Your Life during DJ Glastonbury’s concert at Williams Green on Thursday night described the experience as “crazy”.

She told BBC Breakfast: “I wasn’t expecting it to be as big as it was and so many people handle nuts like they did, it was a great introduction to Glastonbury.

“It’s amazing because the great thing about Glastonbury is that there is something for everyone, there are so many musical styles and when the Spice Girls song drops you think: How’s it going? But people loved it, it was great.”

The singer, better known by the stage name Sporty Spice, wore the “Alexa play Spice Girls” shirt during the DJ set.

Speaking of playing the Spice Girls at Glastonbury, she said: “It’s a dream, the ultimate dream, we’d like to make it come true.

“The girls and I, we talked about it, it’s the biggest theater in the world, we have the best festival in the world here.”

She added that she had a “good feeling” that Beckham, better known as Posh Spice, would join them at the party.

Mel C also said that Billie Eilish, who will become the festival’s youngest solo star when she arrives at the Pyramid Stage on Friday night, will “amaze everyone.”

“The thing is, Billy has it so naturally, I think she wrote her first single when she was 14 and since she was a teen she’s been doing big gigs.

“She’s had a lot of pressure on her shoulders, and despite her young age she’s very experienced,” she said.

Police in Glastonbury have recorded nearly 85% fewer crime so far this year compared to the last festival in 2019.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police told the PA news agency that this may be because the event has become largely cashless and attendees are paying using their phones.

As of 11am on Friday, 11 offenses have been recorded since the gates of Glastonbury opened early Wednesday morning, ending a three-year hiatus for the Somerset Festival.

These crimes included four theft incidents, four drug-related crimes, one public assault incident, one criminal damage incident, and one public disorder incident.

One drug-related offense resulted in an arrest.

Glastonbury’s latest collection of secret rumors

Worthy Farm is buzzing with rumors about who could come to play a secret group this weekend. Some are convinced that Bruce Springsteen, who is currently in the UK, may turn up to join Paul McCartney on the Pyramid stage tomorrow. There are some serious claims that Harry Styles, who just played a show in Dublin, could join Billie Eilish tonight, as she became the youngest solo artist ever to headline Glastonbury.

George Ezra looked like a dead testament until he had to pull out of a Danish festival due to a “bad bout” of laryngitis – we’ll see if the Gold Rush baby makes it to his rumored spot this weekend. Olly Alexander looks like another guarantee as a guest with the Pet Shop Boys on Sunday, since he got his own set as Years & Years before…
