June 24 has been featured on Braves fan calendars all year since he signed with his hometown Dodgers. Many saw Freeman as the face of the Atlanta franchise during his 12 years here.
Freeman won the 2020 National League Player of the Year and received five All-Star nominations. He took the final to send the Braves to the World Championships and again to win their first title since 1995.
After a new deal could not be reached in March, sentiment was as harsh on all sides as expected.
“I got stuck,” General Manager Alex Antopoulos said.
“He’s been our guy for a number of years,” said manager Brian Snicker. “He’ll be a good friend for the rest of my life…No matter what happens on a professional level, I love the guy.”
In an influential social media post, Freeman thanked Braves fans for their love and support.
“We went through highs together and some lows but those lows are what made the last year so special. You watched me as older than a baby girl to marry my love @chelseafreeman5 and seeing us bring 3 beautiful boys into this world. I am so happy my family must be part of your family.”
“You gave everything I had day in and day out, and I hope you guys watched it too. Although our time is up, I look forward to seeing you and playing before you again. When that time comes, I hope you remember all the wonderful memories we made together.” Love you country of the brave! Heroes forever!”
