Argentine army officer Matias Ezequiel Chirino chokes to death from vomiting in the ‘start’ of terror

A young army officer choked to death from vomiting after allegedly being forced to drink alcohol in one of the “opposite” initiation rituals.

Chiefs suspended 11 officers after the death of Second Lieutenant Matias Ezequiel Chirino in Argentina.

Officials said the 22-year-old died early Sunday morning after a party marking his joining his new regiment.

An autopsy gave the cause of his death as bronchial aspiration caused by the consumption of large amounts of alcohol.

Grieving father Ezequiel Chirino said his son was forced to drink wine and throw himself into a pool at night in the cold, among other abuses.

He said: He was undoubtedly killed. It wasn’t an accident.”

He called it an “abuse of power” and said officials “should go to jail.”

Matias Chirino was one of three officers who began serving in the No. 3 Artillery Group based in Paso de los Libres, on the border with Brazil.

The other two initiators are among the eleven suspended officers.

Ezequiel Chirino had taken his son to an army unit and was staying at a hotel in the city when he received the devastating news.

He said: “At eight in the morning, the chief of the detachment called me and said, ‘Shall I speak to Matthias Scherino’s father? Come and get him because he is dead.’

“That cold.”

Matías graduated from the El Palomar Military College after studying for four years.

He had joined the regiment in Paso de los Libres to complete his training as an officer.

The military said it was cooperating with an investigation by the Federal Court of Paso de los Libres.
