A31 road closure: the pickup truck will be recovered overnight

An overturned truck on the A31 motorway near Wimborne caused chaos for motorists on Friday.

The accident occurred at 10.13 am on Friday as the truck overturned on the A31 at the Merly Bird Roundabout.

Police, ambulance and fire services were called to the scene.

Initially the road between Canford Bottom and Gates Lake Roundabout was closed.

National Highways advised drivers to avoid the area completely, warning of long delays and prolonged road closures.

Morbus tweeted that partial road closures are also causing delays.

The westbound highway reopened just after lunch to allow traffic, but the truck was not expected to be recovered until after 9pm.
