A man lied about having a one-year-old son inside the car during an alleged carjacking in East Harlem, sources tell CBS2.

New York — Police sources told CBS2 that a one-year-old boy whose father said he was kidnapped during a carjacking was found safely with his mother in Pennsylvania and was never in danger.

Sources say the boy’s father lied about the child being inside the car when it was stolen early Monday in East Harlem. In the end, it came clean when the car appeared empty.

Investigators continue to investigate the alleged auto theft to determine if this part of the story is true.

Sources say it is too early to say whether the father will face charges.
