Dexter’s dog owners left him at a pet hotel and went on vacation – only to receive a notification from the Ring’s camera that someone was at their door.
We were both like, ‘Oh my God, that’s Dexter!’ said Jeremy Hensen, who was vacationing in Las Vegas with his partner Sarah. “
The Hansens family, of Lenexa, Kansas, left Dexter in canine custody for five days. Somehow Dexter managed to get past a six-foot fence and jogged two miles to get to the house, grumbling to let him in. The flight probably took Dexter at least 90 minutes.
It was restrained and designed. He obviously didn’t understand the fact that we were gone, he just thought we were home,” Jeremy told Inside Edition of a video earlier this year that has since gone viral.
“He takes his job protecting us very seriously,” Jeremy added.
The homesick pup didn’t know his parents were over a thousand miles away.
The couple tried to calm Dexter by talking to him through a megaphone. Then they called the dog hotel staff, who arrived and took the dogs back into their care.
Despite the initial shock, Hensens is not surprised that Dexter released him and found his way home.
“He’s very smart,” Jeremy said. “And that intelligence can get him into trouble at some point.”
Social media users were amused by Dexter’s move.
One YouTuber wrote: “Dexter: You all think you can go on vacation without me.”
Another user commented, Dexter said. F*** this hotel! I’m going home!’
